Chicken Bingo

$1.00 will buy you a numbered square on the chicken bingo board. The numbers will be sold at the Administration Office.

Wed., Thurs., Fri. and Sat. at 4:00 p.m. a chicken will be placed on the bingo board located in the Small Animal Barn. If the chicken decides to stop on your square to "conduct a little business" you  will win 50% of the money taken in on this session of chicken bingo. The Fair Board will use the remaining 50% of the money to make improvements to the Small Animal Barn on the fair grounds.

Come to watch the fun and maybe you will be the winner!!

Quilters Block Contest

 Davis County Fair Hall
July 10 – 15, 2007

Area quilters have been invited to enter a quilt block contest. After receiving a packet of fabric, blocks were made by contestants. The blocks will be on display for the duration of the Fair. After the Fair, the blocks will be made into a beautiful quilt to be raffled at next year's Davis County Fair. All profits will be used to improve the Davis County Fair Hall. Be sure to see the blocks while you are at the Fair!

You may win one of several prizes!

Rules:

1. Each contestant is receiving a packet containing 5 fabrics. All 5 of these fabrics must be used. Add no other fabrics.

2. Each block must be 10 ½" x 10 ½" unfinished or 10" x 10" finished. Your block will not be judged if the size is incorrect. 

3. Blocks may be pieced, appliquéd, paper pieced or any combination of techniques.

4. The contest is limited to the first 50 people. Only one block per person. Blocks will be judged on creativity, best use of fabrics provided and workmanship. 

5. Blocks will become the property of the Davis County Agricultural Society.

6. Do not attach blocks to any backing. 

Look in the Fair Exhibit Hall for the quilt made from last year’s blocks.

Be sure to buy several chances to win the quilt.

Winner will be drawn on Sunday, July 15 at 6:00 p.m. on the Veatch Stage.

Return entry information and completed blocks to one of the above locations on or before May 26th, 2007.

 

Win a Drive in the 
Demo Derby

Win the right to drive a completed compact car during the Davis County Fair Demo Derby on Sunday, July 15 (Davis County Fair Only).

Drawing tickets $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Must be 18 yrs. or older to purchase. Must be 16 yrs or older to drive.

Drawing will be held on Sunday, July 15 at 6:30 pm

Prize Give Away!

Winners Drawn From Membership Ticket Holders

Tickets May be Purchased at the Fair Administration Office for $1.00 each or 12 for $10.00

  • The Prize Committee will draw names of winners daily on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

  • Names will be posted on a sign outside of the Administration Office at 6:00 p.m. each day.

  • The person named on the membership ticket must claim prizes.

  • Prizes must be claimed before the drawing occurring on the following day or the prizes will be put back into the drawing for new winners.

A "cleanup drawing" for all unclaimed prizes will be held on Sunday, July 15 at 6:00 pm.

Prizes will be donated by local merchants and the Davis County Agricultural Society

 

CASI Chili Cook-off and Homemade Salsa Contest

FIRST TIME CASI COOKS, NO ENTRY FEE!
Salsa can be fresh or canned.
Tasting Cups $2.00 while chili supply lasts.

CHILI COOKED ON SITE: All chili must be cooked on site the day of the cook-off from scratch. All chili will be prepared out in the open (no cooking inside motor homes, etc.)

CHILI COOKED FROM SCRATCH: "Scratch" is defined as starting with raw meat. Regular commercial chili powder is permissible, but complete commercial chili mixes are not permitted.

NO FILLERS IN CHILI: No beans, macaroni, rice, hominy, or other similar items will be acceptable.

ONE CHILI PER COOK: Each head cook is responsible for cooking one pot of chili and turning in one judging cup from that pot! The head cook must prepare the chili that he or she intends to be judged; no more than one judging sample may be taken from any one pot.

SANITATION: Cooks are to prepare and cook the chili in as sanitary a manner as possible.
COOKING CONDITIONS SUBJECT TO INSPECTION: These conditions are subject to inspection by the judging committee and/or CASI Regional or Area Referee. Failure to comply is subject to disqualification.

YOU MAY HAVE TO TASTE YOUR CHILI: All chili cooks may be required, at the discretion of the Referee or Head Judge, to remove the lid from the chili cup and eat a spoonful of their own chili before turning it in for judging. If contestant refuses, the chili will be automatically disqualified.

PENALTIES: Failure to comply is subject to disqualification of the individual cook for that cook-off. Anyone disqualified will be notified immediately of the disqualification. Decisions of the official(s) are final.

1. Typed recipe must accompany product.
2. All containers will be opened for judging.
3. Must be made from "scratch". No mixes.
4. One entry per person.
5. All safe food handling processes must be followed.
6. Contestants must be willing to sample own product.

1st place in each division will receive a $150 savings bond
2nd place in each division will receive a $100 savings bond

Top individual in each class will also receive a jacket to be given at a later date

Decorate Your Campsite

Judging at 9:00 pm on Friday night, July 13

Anyone camping, whether it is tent or camper, is encouraged to decorate their campsite prior to the judging on Friday night.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Decorated to represent the 2007 fair theme "Hats Off to the Davis County Fair"

  • Most Unique

  • Best use of lights

Ribbons will be awarded and the Best of Show Display will be forgiven their camping fees for the 2007 fair!!! Be thinking of ways that you can decorate your campsite.

There are plenty of camp spaces available and many have electric hook-ups with water nearby. Why not bring your family and camp a few days at the Davis County Fair? With the high price of fuel, it can be a fun and exciting outing for your family close to home. Make some lasting memories.

 

Hat of the Day

There will be a hat theme each day of the fair.

Come to the Veatch Stage each day at 6:00 pm to have your hat judged for the BEST OF SHOW ribbon

Enter your handmade knit or crochet stocking hat for judging as the longest, prettiest or most-colorful. Entries taken on Mon., July 9 from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.

Upon entering, details and rules will be given to each contestant. Iowa State Fair Queen Competition rules and regulations will apply.

Entry deadline June 22, 2007.

In general, rules are:

  • Must be between the ages of 16-21 years of age.

  • Must never have been married or have had children.

  • Must be an active member of at least one service organization in her community.

  • Must reside in the county she represents.

  • Must be able to represent Davis County in the Iowa State Fair competition in August.

Several scholarships will be awarded along with other prizes!
